Learning Advocacy Skills

Although it is July and school is out for the summer, September will be here before we know it.   It will once again be time to work with the teachers and the school to formulate a plan that will allow your child to succeed in school.

If you are like many parents of children with ADHD, you dread the meetings and the planning.  It may seem like you never seem to get what you want for your child.  Or maybe you feel as if the teachers are fighting you in providing services to help your child.

But how do you learn the skills that you need in order to effectively negotiate with the school?  How do you manage to help your child and have the teachers and school help with you, rather than against you?

There is a service, available via telephone, that can help you to build the skills that you need.  It is a “teleclass” that will begin to provide you with the information that you need to advocate for your child to receive the best education possible.

Ideal Lives.com is offering a 60 minute teleclass during the month of August.  Several time slots are available to make sure that all wanting to attend the class have the opportunity to do so.

The class will be presented by Cheli Cerra, a parent, teacher and principal.  She has written several books on choosing the correct school and helping your child succeed.

Additionally, the co-presenter is Lisa Simmons. Lisa is also a parent and teacher as well as an advocate.  She has authored several books on children with disabilities and well as a guide to IEPs.

The class will provide information on:

·  How to select the best school for your special needs child.

·  How to determine your child’s learning strengths.

·  Key questions to ask when you’re touring potential schools.

·  How to create your own advocacy notebook.

·  How to build your own personal support network.

·  Where to find help if you need it.
