What do you do when you know there is a problem, but no one seems to want to diagnose your child with ADHD?
How do you get any help with adhd when no one will diagnose it with my child being only 7 years of age. he is at the moment trying a diet of no E numbers or preservatives but it is costing a fortune. Any suggestions on where we should start?
My son is nine years old. He is now on ritalin
which has been a miracle cure for him. I tried cutting everything out of his
diet. It didn't work. I hope it works for u ,though if not seek out
information about ritalin. Wishing all the best for u.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Start with a child phsycologist. That is where
I had to begin. I was able to get him diagnosed just after he turned 7.
I had tried the councilling and his regular doctor, but the just said he was
ALL BOY. After 2 visits with the phscologist he was diagnosed then we
went from there. Good Luck!

I had the same kinds of problem as the person who wrote in with this question. I searched our local and state resources, in books, on websites (even 1-800-THERAPIST), and anywhere else I could to find information about someone who could work with our family (my husband and myself along with our 8 yo son and if needed our 2 daughters) and could not find a trained and experienced doctor. About 9 months ago, I found Dr. H. Joseph Horacek who has a practice in Charlotte, NC. He has been our neuropsychiatrist since June. He wrote the book "Brainstorms: Understanding and Treating the Emotional Storms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder from Childhood through Adulthood." He uses his Dopamine-Serotonin-Noradrenaline Questionnaire (a variation of his questionnaire is part of the ADD Survey at http://www.mindfixers.com) In addition to numerous other things (observations, history, checklists, and tests, etc.) and talking to the patient to figure out what symptoms and neurotransmitter imbalances there are and then he uses his knowledge of the medications to find ones that will help the patient along with slowly titrating each medication one at a time.He also has a website at http://www.cnhl.org/. Good luck to you. Deb. One parent provided some helpful web sites:
